The "nifty fifty" as some like to call it has long been a must have lens.
Originally, before digital cameras, manual cameras often were equipped with 50mm lenses. The reason for this is that the 50mm lens shared the same perspective as live view. This means that when you looked through the viewfinder you would see as you normally see.
The 50mm lens is also a fixed lens. This means that it doesn't zoom in or out. Because of this it is relatively inexpensive to make and is quite inexpensive.
Being a prime lens you get the benefit of having a very sharp and fast lens. Most 50mm lenses are very fast at 1.8, 1.4 and even 1.2.
Can you believe that such a great lens can be had for as little as $100?
It is easily the most inexpensive lens to be had for either Nikon, Canon or other brands.
The 50mm is a fantastic lens that can be used for almost any occasion.
They are great for portraits, weddings, candids, street photography, event photography and for some nature photography as well.
So if you are new to photography and deciding on your first lens pick up a 50mm lens and you won't regret it. It is lightweight, very versatile, inexpensive and will teach you about photography.
It is truly one of my favorite lenses. I have the Nikon 50mm 1.8G. Fantastic lens!
